LOGAN, Utah – Redshirt freshman Jaren Hall will start for the second time in his BYU career at quarterback for the Cougars. This time it will come in a rivalry game against Utah State.
Three weeks ago, Hall started for BYU in the Cougars loss at USF in Tampa. That was Hall’s first career start and within that game, the Spanish Fork native suffered a concussion that sidelined him for the following week against Boise State.
Baylor Romney, another redshirt freshman, stepped in to replace Hall and led BYU to a victory over nationally-ranked Boise State.
This past week, Hall and Romney competed in practices for who would be the starter and head coach Kalani Sitake made it official before kickoff against the Aggies that Hall would get the nod.

Hall threw for 143 yards and ran for 83 in the Cougars loss against USF three weeks ago.
Back in January, Hall was the first-team quarterback for BYU when Zach Wilson was recovering from shoulder surgery. Hall beat out Baylor Romney in the spring to be the second-string quarterback behind Wilson.
BYU and Utah State kickoff at 8 p.m. (MDT) and you can listen to the game on KSL Newsradio. BYU has lost the last two games in the rivalry series against Utah State and is only 5-4 in the last nine meetings dating back to 2010.
