SALT LAKE CITY, Utah – Another superstar is ducking the Utah Jazz, but not on purpose. Warriors guard Stephen Curry had surgery on his broken left-hand and won’t be available to play for at least three months.
He broke his hand when Phoenix big man Aron Baynes fell on top of him during Wednesday’s Warriors/Suns game.
That means the Jazz will not face Curry once this season.

Utah and Golden State are set to meet in Salt Lake on November 22 and December 13. They play in the Warrior’s new palatial home of the Chase Center on January 22. The latter two games were to be featured on national television.
In the last 4 seasons, Curry has averaged 22.3 points a game against Utah. That number is significantly lower since he only faced the Jazz once in the 2017-2018 season and scored 14 points.
Jazz fans may not miss seeing Curry this season, but he usually puts on quite a show for the folks in Salt Lake City. On December 19 of last season, he scored 15 of his 32 points against the Jazz in the 2nd quarter.
Mitchell: All-Star?
Curry’s injury could mean that another guard will represent the Western Conference in the annual All-Star game in February. Does that mean that Donovan Mitchell could make his first appearance in the midseason classic?
Perhaps.
Even if Curry and Warriors teammate Klay Thompson are sidelined for the game, the competition will be stiff.

James Harden will probably be on the roster along with current Blazer and former Weber St. guard Damian Lillard. An argument could also be made for Lillard’s running mate C.J. McCollum.
DeMar DeRozan of the Spurs, Russell Westbrook of the Rockets and Devin Booker of the Suns will also be in the running.
Mitchell’s numbers look good five games into the season. He’s averaging 24 points a game on 52.9 percent shooting and is grabbing 5 rebounds and 3 assists a contest.
So, there is a chance Mitchell could be on the bench in Chicago next February.
