Layton Upsets Weber In OT To Advance In High School Football Playoffs

SALT LAKE CITY, Utah – The Layton Lancers picked up a thrilling 28-27 win in overtime over Weber in the first round of the 6A high school football playoffs.
The game was tied at 21 when they went into overtime. Tyler Reid ran in a one-yard touchdown to begin overtime when Logan Payne found the end zone to potentially tie the game but couldn’t convert the extra point and Layton pulls off the upset.
Layton will play #6 East next Friday.
Here is all of the results from the 6A classification in first round action of the High School Football Playoffs:
#1 Corner Canyon, #2 Herriman, #3 Bingham, #4 Skyridge and #5 Kearns all received a first round bye.
#27 Granger 18 at #6 East 48
The Leopards jumped out to a 36-0 lead at halftime and was able to hold off Granger to advance to the second round of the playoffs. Izaak Zimmerman threw two touchdowns, while Jack Ford added a passing score. Four different East players found the end zone on the ground, including Amini Amone, Fakaaofilani Amone, Mapa Vaenuku and Sydney Steen.
East will face #22 Layton next Friday.
#26 Clearfield 3 at #7 American Fork 49
The Cavemen outscored Clearfield 35-3 in the first half and cruised to a first round win. Maddux Madsen threw four touchdown passes, two to Devin Downing and one to both Tanner Holden and Taylor Crump. Jaxon Gregory added two touchdowns on the ground.
American Fork will play #10 Roy next Friday.
#25 Cyprus 7 at #8 Syracuse 49
Syracuse had a good start to the game, scoring two touchdowns in the opening period before the Pirates scored their only touchdown. Bridger Hamblin had three passing touchdowns, connecting with Ty Burke twice. Kavehi Fonua, Micaih Eteuati and Tre’Vaun Peoples each ran in a touchdown.
Syracuse will face #9 Pleasant Grove next Friday.
#24 Taylorsville 6 at #9 Pleasant Grove 62
Pleasant Grove scored 27 unanswered before Taylorsville had a 73-yard touchdown run by Braxton Bates. The Vikings rattled off 35 straight points to close out the win in the first round. Caleb Campbell threw four touchdowns, while Evan Robinson added two scores on the ground.
Pleasant Grove will play #8 Syracuse next Friday.
#23 Northridge 27 at #10 Roy 45
The Royals had a 31-21 lead at the half and added two touchdowns in the second half, while limiting Northridge to just six points to get the victory. Jaxson Dart passed for three touchdowns and Izzy Gordon chipped in three rushing scores. Colby Bro

#21 Copper Hills 12 at #12 Hunter 57
The Wolverines took a 30-12 lead at halftime and put the game away with 21 points in the third quarter. DaiSean Cash threw two touchdowns and ran in two more. Jordan Tupea found the end zone twice on the ground as well as one touchdown from Saia Lomu.
Hunter will face #5 Kearns next Friday.
#20 Lone Peak 37 at #13 Riverton 8
The Knights scored 27 of their 37 points in the first quarter, which was the difference in the game. Luke Romney threw two touchdowns, while Chase Comer ran in two scores.
Lone Peak will play #4 Skyridge next Friday.
#19 West 10 at #14 Fremont 35
The Silverwolves scored four of their five touchdowns in the first half, while West scored all 10 points in the second quarter. Mitch Stratford connected on four touchdown passes, three to Justin Sagapolu and one to Brandon Baray.
Fremont will face #3 Bingham next Friday.

#18 Jordan 20 at #15 West Jordan 17
The game was tied at 7 when Jordan dropped 13 points and held West Jordan to just three points in the third quarter. The Jaguars scored a touchdown in the fourth quarter but couldn’t complete the comeback as Jordan pulled off the upset. Luke Stewart led the way with two rushing touchdowns. Kadius Fuimanon added a touchdown pass in the win.
Jordan will play #2 Herriman next Friday.

#17 Westlake 35 at #16 Davis 14
Westlake scored 21 straight points in the opening half, which was the difference in the game. They capped off the minor upset with two touchdowns in the fourth quarter. Brayden Ross passed for three touchdowns to three different receivers.
Westlake will face #1 Corner Canyon next Friday.
