PROVO, Utah – BYU pulled out all the stops to defeat nationally-ranked Boise State last Saturday. The Cougars even turned to trick plays from the Boise State playbook to secure the win.
Oh my!!! 4th & 1 Romney acted like he was losing the football and then he threw the ball to a wide open Matt Bushman for the touchdown. Great play call. Upset alert brewing in Provo.#BYU #BSUvsBYU #KSLsports

BYU’s 4th & 1 touchdown pass from Baylor Romney to Matt Bushman with four minutes left in the third quarter was a trick play that broke the game open for BYU.
For Boise State’s coaches, the play probably looked familiar. As it should because it was a play the Broncos ran four years ago.
Little does everyone know this was Boises trick play from 3 years ago that we saw on film! Makes it that much sweeter!! https://t.co/rl7Zr6hGpq

BYU wing tight end Kyle Griffitts said on social media that the play was installed into BYU’s playbook after studying previous years on the Broncos.
Griffitts didn’t disclose what the name of the play is in BYU’s playbook, but the Broncos ran the same play against the Hawaii Rainbow Warriors back in 2015. Watch below.
That wasn’t the only trick play BYU pulled out on the Broncos. Later in the third quarter, BYU pulled out a double reverse that ended up in the hands of Baylor Romney to find a wide-open Matt Bushman again for a touchdown. BYU then had a 28-10 lead and never looked back from there.
BYU took a more aggressive approach with their offense and reshuffled booth and field assignments with the staff against Boise State. The aggressive strategy paid off as BYU pulled off a much-needed win to get their season back on track.
