SANDY, Utah – Real Salt Lake forward Jefferson Savarino scored the go-ahead goal late in the match to give Real Salt Lake a 2-1 win over the Portland Timbers in the first round of the MLS Cup Playoffs.
It’s the first goal in the postseason in Savarino’s career.
The goal came in the 87th minute when Joao Plata passed the ball to Albert Rusnak, who jumped over the ball rather than taking it, allowing the ball to travel to Savarino at the top of the 18-yard box and blasted it into the back of the net with his right foot.

It is the final home game for RSL legendary goalkeeper Nick Rimando as RSL will be on the road regardless of how far they advance in the playoffs. They will travel to No. 2-seed Seattle as the Sounders knocked off FC Dallas 4-3 in extra time to advance.
The game will begin at 8 p.m. and will be televised on FS1.
