PROVO, Utah – Redshirt freshman Baylor Romney is going to be the starter for BYU against No. 14 Boise State according to head coach Kalani Sitake in pregame.
Tonight’s game will be Romney’s first start of his BYU career.
Last week in BYU’s loss at USF, Romney saw the first action of his collegiate career and first live reps in a game since he was a senior in high school back in 2014.
Head coach Kalani Sitake says QB Jaren Hall will not be available tonight; Baylor Romney gets the starting nod with Joe Critchlow backing up. 6’8” freshman Blake Freeland is in line to play and start at RT; BYU is down four O-linemen: Hoge, Saleapaga, Longson, Shoaf (season).

Romney stepped in for fellow redshirt freshman quarterback Jaren Hall who suffered a concussion last week in the loss against the Bulls.
The El Paso, Texas native quarterbacked the final two offensive series’ for the BYU offense.
Romney was 6-10 for 73 passing yards and had five rushes for three yards.
With Romney getting the start against the No. 14 ranked Broncos, Romney is the third quarterback to start a game this season for BYU. Last week was Hall and in the previous five games was sophomore Zach Wilson.
Wilson is currently recovering from a thumb injury he suffered late in the fourth quarter in BYU’s loss at Toledo last month.
Romney’s younger brother is BYU wide receiver Gunner Romney, a sophomore in the Cougar offense. Last week at USF, Baylor targeted his brother four different times in the two drives he quarterbacked.
Tonight is BYU’s fourth game of the season against a ranked opponent. BYU is 1-2 in their previous three games against nationally-ranked foes. All four of BYU’s games against ranked teams have been played in Provo at LaVell Edwards Stadium. The one victory came against USC, which also happens to be BYU’s last game they won this season back on September 14th.
