SPRINGVILLE, Utah – Springville hosted Salem Hills for homecoming in a game that had big implications on the Region 8 race. The Skyhawks crashed the party early thanks to a big run from Jordan Ware that got the Skyhawks into the red zone. QB Jarrett Elmer would cap off the drive with a QB sneak to give the Skyhawks a 7-0 lead.
The rest of the first quarter was a defensive battle filled with penalty flags. Both teams struggled to sustain drives, but in the second quarter, Springville QB Peyton Murphy started to connect with his go-to receiver, Austin Mortensen. Murphy found Mortensen to get into the red zone, then finished the drive with a touchdown pass to Mortense to tie the game.
But the air was sucked out of the stadium on the ensuing kick off, Salem Hills’ Reed Johnson returned the kick into Red Devil territory. The Skyhawks took advantage of the field position and broke the tie on a touchdown pass from Elmer to Jake Meuter to take a 14-7 lead at halftime.
In the second half, Salem Hills forced a fumble on Springville’s opening drive and Elmer found Deven Johnson for a 12-yard score to take 21-7 lead.
