Goalkeeper Nicole Barnhart made five saves and completed her fifth clean sheet this season.
In the 35th minute, the Royals lost midfielder Vero Boquete due to injury.
With the Sky Blue creating more chances in the second half to equalize, Utah was able to hold them off to pick up the win, snapping a two-game skid. Sky Blue outshot the Royals 17-11, but Utah put six shots on goal compared to five shots on target for Sky Blue.
