Scott, Canada Defeat Bowen, New Zealand In Women’s World Cup

GRENOBLE, FRANCE – Utah Royals teammates Desiree Scott and Katie Bowen faced off on the pitch at the Women’s World Cup as competitors as Canada defeated New Zealand 2-0 in group play.
Scott’s Canadian team got the better of Bowen and the New Zealand sqaud, dominating the possession 69 percent to 31 percent. Canada also held New Zealand without a single shot on goal while firing six shots on the New Zealand frame.
In the match, Scott had two goals but both were blocked and didn’t make it to the net. Other than one conceded corner kick, Bowen didn’t have a play mentioned on the match commentary.

With the loss, New Zealand is without a point in group play. Canada is in a tie with the Netherlands with six points.
The U.S. women’s national team, featuring Royals players Christen Press, Becky Sauerbrunn and Kelley O’Hara will play in its second game on Saturday against Chile. The American women defeated Thailand in a 13-0 blowout on Tuesday.
