SALT LAKE CITY, Utah – Even though he wasn’t a part of the NBA Championship-winning squad, former Utah guard Delon Wright still expressed his happiness for the Toronto Raptors and their victory in the Finals.
Soon after the Raptors clinched the title with a 114-110 victory over the Golden State Warriors in Thursday’s Game 6 in Oakland, Wright posted a photo of the Raptors on his Instagram with the caption, “Congrats @raptors! Glad I was able to be apart of this Team.”
Wright was originally drafted by the Raptors with the 20th overall pick in the 2015 NBA Draft out of Utah.
At first he played sparingly for Toronto in a reserve role but saw his playing time steadily increase as he progressed in his career.
On February 7, he was involved in a trade with the Memphis Grizzlies that brought NBA veteran Marc Gasol to Toronto. In an increased role in Memphis, Wright finished the season on a strong note. In one week in April, he posted his first three triple-doubles in a span of four games for the Grizzlies.
Wright came to Utah as a junior college transfer in 2013 and quickly became one of the best players in the nation. In his senior season, he was honored as the winner of the Bob Cousy Award, given to the country’s best point guard.
