SALT LAKE CITY, Utah – Former BYU punter and noted Twitter comedian Jonny Linehan is ramping up the trash talk with Tennessee fans.
Even though the Cougars don’t head to Knoxville to face the Volunteers until Sept. 7, the banter between the Tennessee faithful and Linehan, who played at BYU from 2015-17, has already begun.
The exchange began when a Tennessee posted a picture of a bunch of bicycles on bike racks in front of Neyland Stadium, implying that Cougar fans, a large portion of which are members of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, would be arriving on bike, like LDS missionaries famously use.

To Linehan, it was a lame joke. He responded by saying that the Tennessee had a million other things to ridicule BYU about and that riding on bikes was a weak choice.
Let’s hope your football team is better at football than you are at trash talk. You could’ve attacked us for anything and you chose bikes… Honestly bikes are a great form of cardio so this isn’t disrespectful at all. https://t.co/ega7SOG3N8

Linehan doubled down by poking fun at other misconceptions and jokes commonly used to make fun of the LDS Church.
I apologize if my replies are delayed. I’m heading out to knock doors with my 8th wife for a couple hours & then I’ll be preparing a casserole with my 3rd wife to take over to Brother Smith cause his 11th wife is sick. Then I’m going to the mall to buy some more magic underwear.

The game between BYU and Tennessee will kick off on Sept. 7 at 7 p.m. and be broadcast on ESPN. No word yet on if Neyland Stadium will have sufficient bicycle accommodations.
