OREM, Utah – The Utah Valley University men’s basketball team announced that forward Fardaws Aimaq will transfer from Mercer to UVU.
The 6-foot-11 big man played in 29 games for Mercer last season and started 5 contests. He averaged 14.9 points, 5.3 rebounds – a team-best as a freshman. Aimaq shot 51 percent from the field, while collecting 10-plus rebounds in three games last year.
Aimaq is from Vancouver, British Columbia and won two city titles and three district titles at Steveston-London Secondary School.
He earned three city and district MVP awards during his high school career.
“Fardaws Aimaq is a physically imposing player who can score on the block as well as the perimeter,” said UVU head coach Mark Madsen. “When I watched him play, the first thing that stood out was his timing and his ability to rebound outside of his area. Daws has soft hands and finishes well inside. He is a student athlete of great maturity. I am grateful to his parents Shahnaz and Faramarz Aimaq for raising such a fine young man and I am excited to welcome Daws to campus.”
Aimaq has to sit out for the 2019-20 season and will have three seasons remaining of eligibility.
