Utah Royals FC Draw With North Carolina Courage
CARY, N.C. – After an early goal from Amy Rodriguez to give the Utah Royals the lead, Elizabeth Eddy equalized late to end the match with a 1-1 draw.
Rodriguez barely got a foot on the end of her goal in the seventh minute that was assisted by Veronica Boquete.
Eddy scored the equalizer in the 78th minute after she slipped through two Utah defenders and was able to go far-post.
Something had to give as the Courage had 18 shots with three on target throughout the match, leaving the Royals spending most of the match defending in their own half.
Rodriguez scored her third goal of the season in six matches. Two players in the NWSL have scored more in Courages’ Crystal Dunn and Chicago Red Stars striker Sam Kerr.
The Royals didn’t get a chance to attack much in the match as they only had one shot on goal that turned out to be their only goal. North Carolina controlled 53 percent of possession but the Royals had an impressive 44 clearances to North Carolina’s 6.
It was the fourth time that these two teams faced each other and the Courage have yet to beat Utah, as the Royals hold a 1-0-3 record.
Utah improves to 3-1-1 on the season and will return home on Saturday to face the Orlando Pride at 6 p.m. Utah picked up a 1-0 win in Orlando on April 27. The match will be streamed on KSLSports.com or the KSL TV app.
