Tooele Crowned 4A Softball State Champions

SPANISH FORK, Utah – The Tooele Buffaloes softball team took home the 4A State Championship after a 3-1 win in the second game of the championship to be claim the 4A crown.
Spanish Fork made their appearance to the championship game after an 8-6 win over Bear River to get out of the consolation bracket. But their next challenge was to beat Tooele twice to claim the state title since the state tournament is double elimination.
They cleared the first hurdle with a 5-2 win in the first game.
Dons Take Game 1
Tooele had a strong start to the game, taking a 2-0 lead off of two solo home runs at the bottom of the first inning by Bryerly Avina and Natalee Bevan.
That was all that the Buffaloes would score in the first game as Spanish Forks’ Amanda Mitchell scored off of an error from Lindsay Smith to trim the Tooele lead to 2-1.
Tooele committed three straight errors late and the Don’s capitalized as Julia Hult drove in two runs and Spanish Fork closed out the game to force a decisive second game.
Buffaloes Snatch Game 2, State Title
Like Game 1, Tooele got off to another hot start scoring two runs in the second inning as Bryerly Avina took in runners on a double. They scored again in the third inning before Spanish Fork scored their lone run in the fifth inning.
