SANDY, Utah – Real Salt Lake goalkeeper David Ochoa has been named to the U.S. Under 20 roster for the 2019 FIFA U-20 World Cup.
The tournament will take place from May 23 to June 15 in Poland.
“It’s an honor to get to represent the U.S. at the World Cup,” Ochoa said. “I’m proud and excited – as a group, we’ve worked really hard over the last two years and I’m really looking forward to it.”
The native of Oxnard, Calif. joined RSL’s academy prior to this season as an 18-year old. He’s appeared in seven games with the Real Monarchs of the USL with a 2-3-2 record with two shutouts.

Ochoa was a big reason why the U.S. team qualified for the World Cup. He earned shutouts in both of the qualifying matches he appeared in, including a 1-0 victory over Honduras in the CONCACAF semifinals.
“It is wonderful to see that all of the hard work that David has put in while here at RSL is paying off with a call up for the World Cup,” Real Salt Lake General Manager Craig Waibel said.
The U.S. U-20 team will begin its World Cup bid on May 24 against Ukraine. They’re also in a group with Nigeria and Qatar.
