Jazz, Rockets Tied Up After First Quarter In Game 5

HOUSTON, Texas – In a win or go home Game 5 matchup in Houston, the Utah Jazz were tied at 20-all with the Rockets after the first quarter.
Both teams struggled to score in the opening period. Utah shot just 30 percent from the floor while Houston was making baskets at a 36.8 percent clip.
From the start, the Rockets were the aggressor, scoring on three straight baskets to open the game with an 8-0 lead.

Houston’s early advantage was soon nullified by a run by the Jazz, who tied the game up at 12-all on a layup by Donovan Mitchell at the 4:16 mark.
The Rockets built another lead at 19-12 but Utah battled back again and tied the game up at 19-all thanks to a 3-pointer by Joe Ingles with a minute remaining.
Neither team would make another field goal in the final minute of the period, but each made a free throw to knot the game up at 20-all, the lowest combined scoring first quarter of the series.

In the quarter, Mitchell and Ingles each had six points to lead the Jazz.
Houston was led by Eric Gordon, who had six points of his own. The Rockets’ reigning league MVP, James Harden, was held scoreless in the first period after going 0-for-6 from the floor.
