LOGAN, Utah – Utah State University announced that they have hired Weber State Athletics Director Jerry Bovee as Assistant Vice President and Deputy Athletics Director for External Affairs.
Bovee will officially begin his new duties in early June.
He will serve as the second in command in his new role and will oversee all external functions, including some direct sport supervision.
“We are really excited for Jerry to join Utah State Athletics. He’s an Aggie, he received his undergraduate degree from USU, and he began his athletic administration career in our department,” said Utah State AD John Hartwell. “Jerry’s familiarity with and knowledge of our program are huge assets for Aggie Athletics. We’ve got a lot of positive momentum within USU Athletics right now and the addition of Jerry to our staff strengthens our department even more.”
Bovee spent the last 10 years as the Athletics Director at Weber State.
“I’m excited about the opportunity to come back to Utah State where this all began for me over 25 years ago,” said Bovee. “The chance to be part of Aggie Nation once again is a thrill for our family. I have thoroughly enjoyed the last 12 years at Weber State and value the lifelong relationships I’ve made in Ogden. I look forward now to renewing friendships and being part of the amazing successes happening at Utah State.”
He earned his bachelor’s degree in business finance from Utah State in 1992 and began his career in athletic administration with the Aggies as a sales and promotions specialist and later as an Assistant Athletics Director for Marketing and Promotions for four years in Logan from 1992-95.

Bovee’s remarkable tenure with Weber State saw tremendous growth in fundraising and facility upgrades during his time in Ogden. The athletics department saw improvments to Stewart Stadium and the Dee Events Center. The start-of-the-art indoor practice facility, known as the Marquardt fieldhouse opened in 2013. The facility includes strength and conditioning, training and team rooms, along with rehabilitation areas. Also, a new academic facility for student-athletes success was opened in 2016 and a new start-of-the-art athletic complex in the north end zone of Stewart Stadium will open in August.
Under Bovee’s direction, the Wildcats football team has made huge improvements, including back-to-back Big Sky titles in 2017 and 2018 under head coach Jay Hill, who Bovee hired in December of 2013. In 2017, Hill and the Wildcats won a school-record 11 games, a Big Sky championship, two games in the FCS Playoffs and finished the season as the fifth ranked team in the country.
In 2018, they advanced to the FCS Quarterfinals as Big Sky champs and received their highest ranking in school history as the third ranked team in the nation.
Weber State has 19 conference championships during Bovee’s tenure. The men’s basketball team won the Big Sky title in 2010, 2014 and 2016 and went to the NCAA Tournament twice.
Fired up to welcome @JerryBovee back to @USUAthletics as our Deputy AD! Great things happening for the Utah State Aggies! #AggiesAllTheWay
