Jazz Launch Unique Campaign For Gobert’s Defensive Player Award Encore

SALT LAKE CITY, Utah – The Utah Jazz have launched a campaign to help Rudy Gobert secure the Defensive Player of the Year award for the second straight season.
The reigning 2017-18 Defensive Player of the Year award winner’s campaign is inspired by a John Coltrane Jazz vinyl record, including the track listing.

The elite rim protector beat out Joel Embiid of the Philadelphia 76ers and Pelican’s big man Anthony Davis last season. Gobert received 89 first place votes, the second most was Davis with 5. The Frenchman received 466 total points, with Embiid finishing second with 163.

Gobert is fourth in the NBA in rebounds per game with 12.9 and blocks with 2.3 per game. He has helped the Jazz to the second best defensive rating in the league at 105, the Milwaukee Bucks are first with a 104.5 defensive rating.
John Coltrane was an American jazz saxophonist and composer. He died at age 40 in 1967.
Offensively, Gobert is averaging 15.7 points and shooting 67 percent from the field. He also holds the single season NBA record for most dunks in a season.
