SALT LAKE CITY, Utah – New Mexico State big man Johnny McCants threw down a big alley-oop dunk with authority in the first half of the first round of the NCAA Tournament game at Vivint Smart Home Arena.
McCants was cutting to the basket when Shunn Buchanan found him in the lane and threw up the lob pass that led to McCants throwing down the dunk with an athletic move.

The play erupted the New Mexico State fans that made the trip from Las Cruces, New Mexico to Salt Lake City.
It also gave the No. 12-seed Aggies a 16-13 lead over No. 5-seed Auburn with 11:34 to play in the first half.
McCants scored 7 points at that time, passing his season average of 5.9 points per game.
New Mexico State is looking to throw off Auburn a little bit with their substitution pattern.
New Mexico State will play at least 11 players against Auburn today and substitutes 5 at a time. I haven’t seen this strategy since @CoachTinsley25 was the HC of the @LC_WBB team ! I had @cbaileysports do a feature pkg on that process!
