CEDAR CITY, Utah – The Southern Utah Thunderbirds are going to extend their 2018-19 season by playing in the CollegeInsider.com Postseason Tournament, also known as the CIT.
The Thunderbirds are coming off one of the best seasons in program history and will get a chance to play at least one more game in front of their home crowd. SUU finished the season with a 16-16 record and advanced all the way to the semifinals of the Big Sky Conference tournament. The Thunderbirds fell in the semis to Eastern Washington on Friday night.
“We are thrilled to accept this postseason invitation,” SUU head coach Todd Simon said in a press release. “This milestone accomplishment is a tribute to the hard work of our players, staff and administration. We look forward to making a run in the CIT and continuing to progress our program to a championship level.”

As part of their bid to the CIT, the Thunderbirds have been guaranteed to host at least one game at the America First Event Center. Who they’ll be playing and when has yet to be determined.
It’s just the second postseason tournament appearance in the program’s history. The Thunderbirds’ other postseason tournament experience came in 2001 when they made it to the NCAA Tournament.
