6A High School Basketball Tournament Quarterfinals Wrap Up

OGDEN, Utah – The quarterfinal round of the 6A tournament features four games from the highest classification in the state of Utah.
The tournament started with 16 teams with only 8 schools remaining that all have the same goal, winning a state championship.
Here are the results from the action at the Dee Events Center in Ogden, Utah:
American Fork 63 – Copper Hills 59
The Grizzlies started out hot from the perimeter and had upset on their minds with a 35-23 halftime lead. The Cavemen erased the lead to tie the game at 42 heading into the fourth quarter. American Fork outscored Copper Hills 21-17 in the final period to pick up the win and avoid the upset.
Trey Stewart poured in 22 points to lead the Cavemen, while Isaac Johnson and Tanner Cuff each scored 11 points.
The Grizzlies had just five players score, with four reaching double figures, led by Kyle Hoffman with 16 points. Stone Hutchings dropped 14 points, while Perry Dettling and Tyler Bush added 11 points apiece.

Davis 71 – Kearns 52
Much like Copper Hills, the Davis Darts had a great start to their quarterfinal matchup with a 37-23 halftime lead over heavy favorite Kearns. The Darts were able to hold off the comeback by Kearns to punch their ticket into the semifinals.
Jake Sampson scored 18 points to lead the Darts, while Tyson Garff chipped in 15 points.
Majok Kuath dropped 16 points and Emmanuel Andrew Kuac poured in 14 points and 6 rebounds.

Fremont 68 – Riverton 55
Fremont was able to bounce back from trailing 17-9 in the first quarter to outscoring Riverton 18-5. Fremont won the game by dropping 27 points and holding Riverton to 17 points in the fourth quarter to win the battle of the Silverwolves and punch their ticket to the semifinals.
Dallin Hall scored 27 of his 38 points in the second half to lead Fremont. Tige Voorhees added 12 points.
Riverton was led by Parker Applegate with 19 points, Tristyn Hymas chipped in a double-double with 14 points and 10 rebounds.

NEXT UP: Fremont will face Pleasant Grove in the semifinals on Friday at 2:30 p.m.
Pleasant Grove 63 – Herriman 42
The game was tied at 38 heading into the fourth quarter when Pleasant Grove outscored Herriman 25-4 in the final period to pick up the win.
Kael Mikkelsen led the way with 23 points for the Vikings, while Casey Brown poured in 18 points and 7 rebounds.
Herriman was led by Blake Freeland with 14 points and 8 rebounds.
