Barefield’s Hot Shooting Helps Utah Knock Off Washington State

PULLMAN, Wash. – After shooting just 28 percent from the field against Washington, the Utes were in rhythm offensively in their 92-79 win over Washington State.
Sedrick Barefield exploded for 33 points on 10-of-19 from the field and 5-for-10 from downtown. Parker Van Dyke poured in 17 points on 5 made triples and Donnie Tillman added 16 points on four made shots from deep. The Utes hit 16 three-pointers on 35 attempts for 45 percent.
Washington State was led by Robert Franks with 29 points, C.J. Elleby had 16 points and 7 rebounds.
The Cougars hit 44 percent from the field and 46 percent from downtown.
Utes Hot From Deep In First Half
The first three minutes were sluggish for the Utes as they missed three of their first four shots and turned the ball over once. Washington State was up 10-2, hitting 2-of-3 from downtown.
Utah started to hit some shots, especially from deep as they nailed three triples.
After the first 20 minutes of play, the Utes had a 45-43 lead.
Barefield scored 19 points on 4-for-6 from the three-point line. Franks for Washington State had 22 first half points. Utah made 10 of their 17 attempts from downtown in just the opening half.
Utah Stays Hot
The Utes continued their hot streak early on as they outscored the Cougars 21-12 to hold a 66-55 lead with 11 minutes left in the game.
Barefield added 5 more points in that stretch.
Washington State started chipping away at the lead as they pulled within 8 with 3 minutes left.
The Utes were able to hold off a comeback from the Cougars to pick up the win.

Utah improved to 15-12 overall and 9-6 in Pac-12 play. They will play their final regular season road game on Saturday against Colorado at 4 p.m. on ESPNU.
The Buffs are 16-10 overall and 7-7 in the conference. Utah beat Colorado in their first meeting this season on January 20 in Salt Lake City with a 78-69 win.
