Southern Utah Suffers Overtime Loss To Northern Arizona 80-77

FLAGSTAFF, Ariz. – Southern Utah couldn’t get past the Northern Arizona Lumberjacks as they lose in overtime 80-77.
SUU was led by Andre Adams with 21 points and 10 rebounds, while Brandon Better nailed 5 three-pointers to go with his 18 points.
The Lumberjacks were able to get 19 points and 8 rebounds from Bernie Andre as well as 17 points and 4 assists from Carlos Hines.
The first half was neck-and-neck all the way through with seven lead changes. SUU’s largest lead in the first half was six points while the Lumberjacks’ biggest advantage was five points.
Southern Utah had a 39-37 lead at halftime.
Cameron Oluyitan had 10 points in the opening half to lead the Thunderbirds, while Brandon Better added 9 points.
Carlos Hines had 10 points to lead Northern Arizona in the first half.
Mid-way through the second half, SUU went scoreless for over 4 minutes. Northern Arizona capitalized with a 58-52 lead with 8 minutes left in the game on a 7-0 run.
NAU had the lead for most of the second half until the Thunderbirds took the lead shortly before the Lumberjacks tied the game with 1:34 left.
Both teams couldn’t score in the final seconds of regulation and the game went into overtime.
In the extra period, NAU outscored the Thunderbirds 12-9 to pick up the win.

Southern Utah falls to 9-9 overall and 4-5 in Big Sky play, having lost their last two games. They are now in sixth place in the conference standings.
The Thunderbirds will travel to Eastern Washington on Saturday at 3 p.m. on Pluto TV. The Eagles have a 6-13 overall record and a 4-4 mark in conference play.
It will be the first of two meetings this season between the two schools. Both teams picked up a win at home last season with SUU claiming the 66-62 win in Cedar City and EWU getting the 74-51 victory in Cheney, Washington.
