Yoeli Childs Named WCC Player Of The Week

PROVO, Utah – The West Coast Conference has named BYU forward Yoeli Childs its Men’s Basketball Player of the Week for January 14. It’s the second time that he has won the award this season.
Childs led the Cougars to wins over Portland (79-56) and Santa Clara (80-74) and averaged 27.5 points, 9 rebounds, 1.5 assists, 1 steal, 60 percent field goal shooting, 55.6 three-point shooting and 82 percent free throw shooting for the week.
In BYU’s win over Portland, Childs had 28 points, 12 rebounds, 3 assists and 1 block while hitting 9-of-13 from the field, 2-for-4 from the perimeter and 8-of-9 from the free-throw line. He tied his career high for points in a half with 20 points in the second half.
Against Santa Clara, Childs made nine of his 17 field goals, tied his career high with three 3-pointers and went 6-of-8 from the free-throw line to total 27 points. He chipped in six rebounds and two steals while scoring 16 points in the first half. With ten minutes left in the game, he scored six straight points to help BYU keep the lead.
Childs has won WCC Player of the Week three times in his career.
