BYU Swimmer Qualifies For Olympic Trials

GREENSBORO, N.C. – BYU senior Payton Sorenson qualified for the Olympic Swimming Trials in the 50-meter freestyle with a second place finish at the U.S. Winter Nationals on Thursday.

“I’m so proud of Payton,” BYU head coach John Brooks said. “He has worked really hard toward his goal of being one of the best swimmers in the world. I hope some of that rubs off on the other swimmers at nationals as well.”
Sorenson finished second in the event behind five-time Olympic gold medalist Nathan Adrian to earn a spot at the Olympic Swimming Trials.
The senior is currently the second-fastest American in the 50-meter freestyle and holds BYU’s all-time best time for the event with a record he set a few weeks ago at the Mizzou Invitational.
