Cold Shooting Leads BYU To Loss Against Houston

PROVO, Utah – The BYU Cougars lost for the first time at the Marriott Center in the 2018-19 season as they were defeated by the Houston Cougars 76-62.
Only two BYU players scored in double figures that included T.J. Haws with 25 points on 9-of-19 shooting and 6-of-12 from downtown. Yoeli Childs added 16 points and nine rebounds.
BYU couldn’t get their three-point shot to fall as they finished shooting just 8-of-28 from deep for 28 percent. They also shot just 40 percent from the field.
Corey Davis Jr. led Houston with 24 points and 4 assists. Cedrick Alley Jr. had 19 points, 6 rebounds and 6 assists while Breaon Brady chipped in 17 points.
The Cougars in red hit 11 of their 26 three-point attempts for 42 percent and shot 50 percent from the field.
BYU had a hard time hitting shots in the first half as they finished the first 20 minutes of play shooting 38 percent from the field, hitting 12-of-31 attempts including just 4-of-16 from the perimeter. Houston shot 50 percent from the field and 41 percent from downtown. They were ahead by five at the half, 37-32.
Houston jumped out to a 15 point lead in the second half as they went on a 15-5 run with 12:20 left in the game and never looked back as their largest lead reached 21 points in the final half of play.
BYU fell to 5-2 on the season and snapped their five game winning streak. They will be on the road on Wednesday when they face Illinois State. Tip-off will be at 6 p.m. and will be broadcast on The Valley on ESPN and can be heard on KSL News Radio.
