SALT LAKE CITY, Utah – Even though emotion is a major part of the BYU-Utah rivalry, the athletics directors at both institutions are asking their fans to keep it in check.
In a letter from both Utah athletic director Mark Harlan and BYU athletic director Tom Holmoe, the two are “teaming up to ask our fans to treat each other and this game with the respect it deserves as one of the longest rivalry series in the country.”

The letter, signed by both Harlan and Holmoe, continued to state how important it would be for the atmosphere at Rice-Eccles Stadium both positive and family-friendly.
“Let’s all join together to keep the battle on the field where it belongs and celebrate just how special the rivalry is,” concluded the letter.
The game between the Utes and Cougars will kick off Saturday at 8 p.m. and be broadcast on FS1.
