SALT LAKE CITY, Utah – It’s playoff time for high school football in Utah. There are 36 playoff games scheduled Friday and Saturday in 6A through 1A classifications.
First, there was some unfinished business in Region 6 and Region 8. The final playoff spot in each region was up for grabs in play-in games.
The Region 6 play-in game featured three teams: Murray, West and Skyline. In a three team play-in game two teams play each other in the first half and the winner advances to play the third team in the second half.

Murray kicker Riley Murray kicked a 28-yard field goal with 3 seconds left to give Murray a first half win over West. Spartans quarterback Payson Hadley threw for 243 yards and three scores to help Murray keep their season alive.
West quarterback Abe Williams rushed for 129 yards and two touchdowns in a loss that ended the Panthers season.
Murray would move on to face Skyline in the 2nd half, and once again there was drama.
The game went to overtime.
After kicking a field goal on the first possession of overtime Murray’s Owen Madsen intercepted a pass to clinch the win for the Spartans. They move on to face No. 1 ranked Corner Canyon in the first round of the 5A playoffs on Saturday at 4pm.
Maple Mountain upset Wasatch 34-31 to earn the final playoff spot in Region 8.
Wasatch led 31-21 midway through the 4th quarter, but just like they did last week against Timpanogos, Maple Mountain would rally and keep their season alive.
Maple Mountain will travel to Roy Saturday at 4pm in the first round of the 5A playoffs.
