SALT LAKE CITY, Utah – Former Utah Utes wide receiver Kenneth Scott is impressed with how the Utah football team is uniting together and it starts with how unselfish every player is on the roster.

It is evident to the Fontana, California native about the players putting their own thoughts aside and it is showing on the football field with Utah winning their last eight games and finishing the regular season with an 11-1 record.

The former Ute joined the Crimson Corner podcast to discuss the recent run by Utah and their Pac-12 Championship game on Friday night.

Scott gave some examples of players that could easily be upset with their role or their playing time, but go out on the field and makes the most of every opportunity.

“I wish Devonta’e Henry-Cole would play a little bit more,” Scott said. “I love his game, but it’s okay, his time is coming. I love how unselfish he is because he could be pouting because he does have the skill and talent but he is very unselfish and is a team-first guy. There is something special about this team and how they are unselfish and want to see each other win.”

A lot of the reason why players are not getting upset is because of the culture that head coach Kyle Whittingham has put into the program.

“The culture has always been team-first, you have to sacrifice yourself in order for the team to win,” Scott mentioned. “At times it’s hard and frustrating because media outlets will say that a player isn’t good because he isn’t getting enough touches. Players know that they are super talented but they are sacrificing in order to benefit the team. It’s one of the things that Utah is taking head on. If you had a bad apple in a position group that wants all of the touches, it will show on the field. But, you can tell that this team isn’t selfish because the players want what is best for the team.”

Utah has been impressive on the offensive side of the ball and Scott said that a lot of things go into that, including players buying into their roles.

“This offense has so much versatility across the spectrum,” Scott said. “There are so many people involved in regards to how many different players touch the ball. We have our tight ends making plays, we have a plethora of receivers making plays and the running backs. If Zack Moss is out of the game, they can throw in (Devin) Brumfield and Devonta’e Henry-Cole.”

Utah and Oregon will face off in the Pac-12 Championship game on Friday night at 6 p.m. at Levi’s Stadium in Santa Clara, California. The game will be broadcast on ABC.

The Crimson Corner podcast is the one-stop for all things University of Utah Athletics hosted by Utah insider Trevor Allen. Ute fans will find interviews with current players, coaches, and staff alongside expert analysis of every game, story and angle coming out of the University of Utah.
