SALT LAKE CITY – The ebbs and flows of college football recruiting never end. On Saturday, 2025 class signee Tavian McNair announced his decision to take his career in a different direction.
Utah has gone through significant changes on the offensive side of the ball. There is a new offensive identity under a new offensive coordinator, running backs, and receivers coach.
After signing his letter of intent with Utah at the beginning of the month, McNair now intends to play collegiate football with another program.

McNair announced his change of plans Saturday morning:
“Blessing to all,
I just wanted to take this opportunity to thank Coach Whittingham, Coach Simon and the rest of New Offensive Staff as well as Coach Bumphis, Coach Whitted, Coach Harding, Coach Ganther for giving me the opportunity and offering me a scholarship to attend the University of Utah. After taking some time and praying and talking with my family, we decided that it’s best to go in a different direction, I’m grateful for this process and everything I’ve learned along the way. I have nothing but respect for everyone at Utah and the Ute community and I wish them nothing but the best. I’m looking forward to what God has in store for me and my family as well. Thank you for your continued support.
Best Wishes,
Tavian A. McNair”
