Utah Football’s Newest Commit Nathan Tilmon Talks Decision

SALT LAKE CITY – Kyle Whittingham’s Utah Football program picked up another valuable commitment this week as three-star safety Nathan Tilmon committed on Saturday.
The 6-foot, 180-pound Texas product picked Morgan Scalley and the Utes over his two other finalists Texas and TCU.

Nathan Tilmon Talks Utah Commitment
“Man, after going through this process for so long, it just feels like a weight lifted off my shoulders,” Tilmon explained. “It feels great, I’m so glad to be a Ute!”
Committing is always a memorable experience for recruits and their families. There’s a ton of excitement to have a decision made as well as relief from the recruiting process. It’s also a pretty significant moment for the coaches as well.
“It was crazy, I actually told the coaches earlier this week, I called them -I had my Utah hat on that I got on my official visit and just said ‘I’m ready’ and coach Scalley went crazy,” Tilmon said. “Scalley started screaming ‘Tilmon committed, Tilmon committed’ and then I talked to coach Shah and coach Whitt, they were all excited.”
Tilmon’s family shares in the excitement over his decision. They also played a significant role throughout this process. His older brother went through his own recruitment a couple of years ago, while dad was a guiding voice for him as well.
“My brother just told me to go where you’re loved, where you’re really wanted,” Tilmon shared. “My dad has actually been preaching Utah since day one. Ever since we went up there, he just said that’s a family up there and that he trusts coach Scalley to get the most out of me there.”
This has been a long process as his recruitment began last summer. It gained momentum following his junior season. More and more programs expressed their interest and his offer sheet surpassed the double-digit mark. Utah officially entered the picture in January and from then, Tilmon became a priority for the staff.
They brought Tilmon and his family in for an official visit in June. The opportunity to get out of Texas and experience life outside of his home state was a big factor in his decision. It also helped that the area made a strong impression.
“Salt Lake City is like a dream, I’m not gonna’ lie,” Tilmon said. “Being the Texas boy that I am and waking up -when I was on my OV, they had us in the Grand America, and we woke up just seeing the mountains with the snow, like you don’t see that in Texas.”
Tilmon’s addition is another nice boost to Utah’s 2025 recruiting class and, more importantly, the future of the safety room.
