SALT LAKE CITY – Utah football has been very active in the transfer portal window, as they’ve already eclipsed the double-digit mark in commitments.
According to a report from Steve Doerschuk of the Canton Repository, Utah has added another one in the form of former Oklahoma quarterback Brendan Zurbrugg.
“Utah quarterback” Brendan Zurbrugg?
Though he or the program hasn’t announced a commitment, Zurbrugg visited Utah on Thursday and has added “QB @utahfootball” to his Instagram profile.
As a high school recruit, Zurbrugg was once committed to Jason Beck at Syracuse before going through a couple of changes and ending up at Oklahoma. That relationship with Beck has been key to Utah’s involvement now.
At 6-foot-2, 210 pounds, Zurbrugg has a good frame for the position. He’s promising passer and a surprisingly good athlete, thanks to his background as a hurdler in track. He seems capable of playing backup duties.
Adding Zurbrugg, a redshirt freshman, to the mix would really solidify Utah’s quarterback depth. They’ve landed Devon Dampier and convinced Isaac Wilson to withdraw from the portal. Combined with the two incoming freshmen, Wyatt Becker and Jamarian Ficklin, Utah’s reconstructed quarterback room seems to be nearing completion.
Former commit Mike Washington Jr. flips to Arkansas
After landing two running back commitments yesterday, the Utes lost one to an SEC program today. Running back Mike Washington Jr, who committed to Utah on Sunday, announced a change of plans that will take him to Arkansas instead.
Utah is in good shape after landing their top target, Wayshawn Parker, and former New Mexico back Na’Quari Rogers. The Utes carried five scholarship running backs this season and currently sit at five but may look to add one more to shore up the depth.
Is Washington defensive end Lance Holtzclaw trending to Utah?
A pass rusher from Washington, Holtzclaw has been making the rounds, as he’s visited a number of programs over the last week. That included a trip to Salt Lake City on Wednesday that wasn’t finalized until the morning of.
FWIW, this👇has been finalized, and the visitor is already on campus. https://t.co/uQYkAh5Co0 pic.twitter.com/AdaIgUmLH5

Utah has already added a piece to their pass rush in Jaxson Jones, a former Oregon Duck. Adding Holtzclaw, a former Husky, would be another nice addition and it seems to be trending the Utes way.

Utah currently has 11 total additions and remains heavily involved with several other targets. The program hosted several players over the week and will continue to welcome prospects to campus in the coming days.
