SALT LAKE CITY – The rumors have swirled around the college football landscape over the last couple of weeks regarding Kyle Whittingham potentially retiring after this season.

Rumors surfaced on a Sports Illustrated story that “industry sources” indicated that Whittingham was planning on retiring after the 2021 season. Then other rumors have come through that mentioned Whittingham retiring if the Utes win the Pac-12 title and win the Rose Bowl this season.

As Whittingham and his program prepares to face the Oregon Ducks in the Pac-12 Championship Game in Las Vegas, Nevada on Friday, December 3, he was asked about the reports at his weekly press conference on Monday morning.

“No, I don’t know who that was,” Whittingham said. “I’ve heard a few things from people. I’m having as good time right now as I ever have. So, I’m not even contemplating that right now.”

It’s been widely speculated over the last year that Whittingham is near the end of his legendary career. He has been the head coach at Utah for the last 17 seasons and became the all-time winningest coach in program history after their 38-7 win over Oregon on Saturday, November 20.

Whittingham has mentioned throughout the season that he is fortunate to have been the head coach for as long as he has at the University of Utah.

Utah and Oregon will kickoff at 6 p.m. MT on Friday, December 3 on ABC.
