Utah State Stomps San Jose State In Conference Opener

LOGAN, Utah – Utah State is off to a strong start in Mountain West Conference play with a 107-62 win over San Jose State.
The Spartans led just once in the game and that was when it was 4-3 with 17:07 remaining. Utah State had a 47-26 lead but what blew the game open was when they went on a 21-0 run to start the second half and took a 66-26 lead with 14:49 left in the game. It took the Spartans over five minutes to score their first bucket in the second half.
Justin Bean led the Aggies with 16 points, along with 11 rebounds and 4 assists. He shot 8-of-10 from the field. Bean scored 8 of the Aggies’ first 9 points of the game.

Neemias Queta filled up the stat sheet with 8 points, 9 rebounds, 5 assists and 6 blocks while going a perfect 3-of-3 from the floor and 2-for-2 from the foul line. The former MW Defensive Player of the Year had three blocks in the first six minutes of the game and 5 blocks at halftime.
Brock Miller knocked down four three-pointers to finish with 14 points. Marco Anthony scored 10 of his 12 points in the first half. Steven Ashworth added 10 points off the bench. 15 Aggies appeared in the game with 12 players scoring. As a team, Utah State shot 51 percent from the field (43-83), 35 percent from the three-point line (11-31) and 66 percent from the free throw line (10-15). They outrebounded the Spartans 59-36.
San Jose State had two players score in double figures. Richard Washington led all scorers with 20 points. Sebastian Mendoza chipped in 11 points.
Utah State improved to 4-3 on the year and 1-0 in Mountain West play. They will have a rematch with San Jose State at the Spectrum on Wednesday, Dec. 23 at 7 p.m. MST.
