Sam Merrill Led USU’s Hot Shooting In Double-Digit Win Over Colorado State

LOGAN, Utah – Utah State men’s basketball guard Sam Merrill led the Aggies on great shooting night to a double-digit home victory over the Colorado State Rams.
Merrill and the Aggies hosted the Rams at Dee Glen Smith Spectrum on Saturday, January 25.
The Utah State senior carried the Aggies’ offense and scored 28 points on 10-15 from the field. He torched the Rams from deep, shooting 5-7 from behind the arc to lead USU’s 43.8 percent shooting from downtown. Merrill added 1 rebound and 5 assists. He was turnover-free in the win.

USU center Neemias Queta added 10 points, 7 rebounds, and 5 assists.

Aggie forward Justin Bean was a rebound shy of a double-double but scored 13 points and pulled down 9 rebounds.

Utah State finished the game shooting 59.2 percent on field goals.
The Aggies defense held the Colorado State offense in check and limited them to 37.9 percent shooting including 30.4 percent on triples.
USU held advantages over the Rams in rebounds, assists, and blocks.
Colorado State was led by Nico Carvacho and Adam Thistlewood who each scored 14 points.

The Rams fell to 14-8 overall and 5-4 in conference play.
With the win, the Aggies improved to 16-6 on the season and 5-4 in Mountain West Conference games.
