SALT LAKE CITY – Utah State senior quarterback Logan Bonner sees the Aggies as underdogs again in 2022 and he is completely fine with that.
Logan Bonner and the defending Mountain West champion Utah State Aggies are seen as underdogs after they were picked to finish third in the division in the preseason poll and none of their players were recognized in the preseason All-MWC team.
Bonner talked about those things at Mountain West Media Day on Thursday.
“We are right where we want to be, underdogs again,” Bonner said. “I think that it’s really good for us. I feel like we have been disrespected in the past. I think that we deserve to get some recognition but that’s fine. If we don’t get it, that’s okay, we’ll be fine. I think that underdog mentality is the same as last year. Last year we were picked last. This year, we were picked third. It might as well be the same. That’s how we feel.”

Bonner is entering his second season with Utah State after transferring from Arkansas State. He followed head coach Blake Anderson from Arkansas State to Utah State.
In just one season, Bonner led the Aggies to a conference title after the program went 1-5 in 2020 before Bonner and coach Anderson arrived.
“It’s huge for the university as the first one (football team) to win the Mountain West,” Bonner stated. “It was really beneficial for the guys that were there before I got there. They went 1-5 and basically no hope in the program at one point. Leading those guys back, it was really special for them and for me.”
Bonner threw for 3,628 yards, 36 touchdowns, and 12 interceptions in 14 games played in 2021.
Utah State will open the 2022 season on Saturday, August 27 against UConn at 2 p.m. MT. That game and every Utah State football game will be broadcast on the KSL Sports Zone.
