SALT LAKE CITY, Utah – Zach Wilson and the No. 13 BYU Cougars fell two yards short of the end zone and lost to the No. 18 Coastal Carolina Chanticleers.

The Chanticleers hosted the Cougars in Conway, South Carolina on Saturday, December 5.

With the Cougars down five and only seven seconds left on the clock, Wilson connected with wide receiver Dax Milne near the goal line.

Milne was tackled at the two-yard line before he was able to work his way into the end zone.

The play resulted in a 22-17 loss by BYU.

The Cougars struggled to match the Chanticleers’ play during the 60 minutes on the field.

Coastal Carolina’s offensive and defensive lines were question marks entering the contest but put any doubts to rest early on. The Chanticleers controlled the line of scrimmage and won the time of possession battle by over 15 minutes.

The Chanticleers ran the ball 54 times for 281 yards and three touchdowns.

BYU was led scoreless in the opening and closing quarters of the game, while Coastal Carolina scored in all four quarters.

Coastal Carolina improved to 10-0 on the season with the win.

Wilson was 19/31 passing for 240 yards, one touchdown, and one interception.

Milne led BYU’s receiver’s with six catches for 106 yards and a touchdown.

BYU running back Tyler Allgeier ran the ball 13 times for 106 yards and a touchdown.

The Cougars’ special season won’t be as special with their first loss of the season.

BYU fell to 9-1 on the season and can expect to fall in the AP and Coaches polls, as well as the College Football Playoff rankings.

BYU’s final game of the regular season is against the San Diego State Aztecs on Saturday, December 12 at 8 p.m. (MDT). The game will broadcast on ESPN2 and KSL NewsRadio 102.7 FM and 1160 AM.
