PROVO, Utah – The BYU men’s basketball program landed a nice addition in the transfer portal in former Arkansas guard Jaxson Robinson out of the SEC.

Jaxson Robinson will play for his third school in three years as he joins a BYU backcourt that lost Alex Barcello and Te’Jon Lucas to graduation.

Robinson announced his commitment to BYU via his Twitter account on Thursday morning.

Coming out of Ada High School in Ada, Oklahoma, Robinson was a four-star prospect that was ranked 62nd nationally and No. 16 at his position. He was a top 50 recruit in the 2021 class but reclassified to the 2020 signing class. Robinson led Ada High School to a 21-6 record, while averaging 15.4 points, 5.6 rebounds and 2.5 assists as a junior.

The Ada, Oklahoma native played for Team Griffin in the Nike Elite Youth Basketball League, helping them win the 2019 16U championship at the Nike Peach Jam. Robinson originally committed to Texas A&M out of high school, where he played in 14 of the Aggies’ 18 games, including four starts during the 2020-21 season. He scored 30 points, pulled down 15 rebounds, dished out four asssists, blocked one shot and had three steals in a Texas A&M uniform.

Robinson entered the transfer portal and joined the Arkansas Razorbacks program for the 2021-22 season. He made the department’s honor roll, while playing 16 games with four starts for the Razorbacks. Robinson scored 55 points, while shooting 14-of-43 from beyond the arc last season.

BYU added some talent to their backcourt on May 7 when Rudi Williams committed to the program, transferring from Coastal Carolina. The Cougars have seen some a good chunk of their 2021-22 roster leave the program either to graduation or the transfer portal.

They also lost assistant coach Chris Burgess, who took the same position with the University of Utah men’s basketball program. Cougars head coach Mark Pope hired Kahlil Fennell to replace Burgess, who joins the program after four seasons at Louisville.
