PROVO, Utah – The new uniforms for BYU football were a big deal for players in the program and fans of college aesthetics. BYU’s updated uniform identity has garnered national praise for being among the best jersey changes in college football this off-season.
If you need a reminder of the changes, back in March, BYU unveiled a new royal blue and navy blue helmet to their rotation of jerseys. BYU now has a total of 26 different uniform combinations to chose from, and each has a direct link to a different era of Cougar football over the years.

BYU Football rolled out the best uniform update in 2021
Auburn Uniforms, a website dedicated to tracking uniform updates for Auburn and College Football, took note of what BYU did this year with their jerseys.
The site rounded up all the different uniform changes for each FBS team in 2021 but found BYU the best. Here’s what they had to say about the new BYU threads.
“The winner of the offseason is no doubt BYU. The Cougars have bounced back and forth between navy and royal blue for years now. This season, they’ll be going all-in on both colors.”
BYU’s new uniform identity was a significant enhancement to the player experience. This past winter, members of the BYU football team selected a different uniform combination for each of BYU’s 12 regular-season games in 2021. BYU opens up the 2021 season on Saturday night in Vegas against Arizona with a “Royal Rush” uniform.

Along with navy blue and royal blue helmets, BYU also has the option to swap out face masks. Last year, BYU incorporated a gray mask that they coined “The Giff.” Named after former BYU and NFL QB Gifford Nielsen. “The Giff” helmet was featured on the set of ESPN’s College Gameday for BYU’s impromptu cross-country showdown against Coastal Carolina last season.
It should be fun to see what BYU rolls out throughout the 2021 season.
