PROVO, Utah – Has BYU football found their next Tyler Allgeier?

After losing the school’s single-season rushing leader to the NFL, BYU went on the prowl for a running back out of the NCAA’s Transfer Portal. They’ve found their guy in Cal running back Christopher Brooks, KSL Sports & The Zone Sports Network have learned.

Brooks is a power-style running back at 6-foot-1, 235-pounds who rushed for 1,734 yards and 14 touchdowns during four years at Cal. He enrolled in classes at BYU on Wednesday and will be a graduate senior in 2022 for the Cougars.

Brooks originally committed to Purdue after he entered the Transfer Portal, but has since pulled away from that commitment to the Boilermakers to take his talents to Provo.

Before the 2021 season, the former Cal running back changed his name to Christopher Brooks Jr. after previously being Christopher Brown Jr. He made the name change in honor of his single mother, Raquel Brooks, who raised him growing up.

Brooks joins a BYU football backfield in 2022 that will include Lopini Katoa, Jackson McChesney, Miles Davis, Hinckley Ropati, and Mason Fakahua.
