During his two seasons with the BYU program, the 6-foot, 200-pound Wakley totaled 103 tackles, seven pass deflections, one sack, and three interceptions. He had 16 starts and had snaps at free and strong safety with the Cougars.
However, at the end of the regular season, Wakley decided to enter the transfer portal. BYU moved forward with sophomore Raider Damuni as their starter in the Alamo Bowl against Colorado.
Wakley will have one year of eligibility at Purdue.
He joins a Purdue program that recently hired former UNLV coach Barry Odom as their new head coach.
Purdue has been active in the transfer portal during the 2025 cycle. The addition of Wakley gives Purdue 24 transfer commitments.
Wakley picked Purdue over offers from Iowa State, West Virginia, Memphis, and others.
He’s the second former BYU player in the 2025 transfer portal cycle to commit to a Big Ten program, joining LB Aisea Moa, who committed to Michigan State.
Wakley emerged as one of BYU’s top safeties in week three of the 2024 season during a win at Wyoming. After that, he was BYU’s starter at strong safety during a year where BYU had the No. 1 defense in the Big 12.
