PROVO, Utah – Southern Utah University has been a solid pipeline for BYU football in recent years.
Heading into next week’s Alamo Bowl matchup against Colorado, BYU could have two former SUU T-Birds in the starting lineup with Mata’ava Ta’ase and Austin Leausa.
So when BYU adds a T-Bird transfer, that player is expected to compete for a starting role.

Along with BYU, Sfarcioc received interest from the Cal Golden Bears in the ACC.
During the past three years in Cedar City, Sfarcioc has 22 career starts on the offensive line, primarily at right guard.
Sfarcioc was part of a Southern Utah offense that was ninth nationally in the FCS at rushing offense, averaging 205.6 yards per game.
The offensive line position is where offensive coordinator Aaron Roderick wanted to bolster in this transfer portal cycle. BYU will lose three starters from its starting offensive line after the conclusion of this season. So there will be a lot of competition next year to establish the starting five.
The addition of Sfarcioc gives BYU two commitments out of the Transfer Portal for 2025. Sfarcicoc joins former Utah tight end Carsen Ryan.
