PROVO, Utah – BYU football adds a transfer from Baylor, who has ties to the Cougar program.

Baylor long snapper Garrison Grimes has signed with BYU.

Grimes is the son of former BYU offensive coordinator Jeff Grimes.

“So thankful for Baylor Football and all the relationships I’ve built here over the years. Thankful for my coaches and teammates that have all helped and pushed me to become the best version of myself. With that being said, I will be playing my last year of college football at BYU. Go Cougs! Proverbs 3:5-6,” Grimes wrote on social media.

Garrison Grimes was three-year long snapper starter at Baylor

When his father was BYU’s OC, Grimes prepped at American Fork High School before following his dad to Baylor in 2021. The elder Grimes is now the offensive coordinator at Wisconsin.

The 6-foot-4, 225-pound Grimes has one year of eligibility remaining in his collegiate career.

Grimes was a three-year starter at long snapper for Baylor.

The only interruption in Grimes’ time as the starter at Baylor was in 2023 when he suffered a season-ending injury at UCF. He returned in 2024 as the full-time starter and was part of a Baylor team that finished the regular season on a six-game winning streak.

The top performance of Grimes’ career at Baylor was in 2023 against Texas when he recovered two fumbles on muffed punts.

One of BYU’s two long snappers from the 2024 season, Dalton Riggs, entered the NCAA Transfer Portal during the winter window. BYU also has Cannon Skidmore, who appeared in nine games during his freshman season.

Skidmore is a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and could leave to serve a two-year mission for the Church.

Grimes is the seventh player BYU has received a commitment from the Transfer Portal in the 2025 cycle.
