SALT LAKE CITY, Utah – The Utah Jazz will be playing in an arena with a new name when they next return to action. The organization is dropping ‘Smart Home’ from the Vivint Smart Home Arena name. The change will require a redesign of the Vivint Smart Home Arena sign on the exterior of the building, and the lettering on the basketball floor.

The Jazz are playing the remainder of the 2019-20 season in at The Walt Disney World Resort in Orlando due to the coronavirus pandemic. Each NBA team will get four ‘home games’ while in Orlando during the final eight seeding games.

During home games, the home team gets to display local sponsors on the floor during television broadcasts. Instead of the traditional orange Vivint Smart Home Arena insignia that is displayed on the floor in Salt Lake City, a digital layover shows a black Vivint logo on the floor.

The company is evolving the Vivint branding. Fans who watched the game on AT&T SportsNet also shown two Vivint commercials hinting at the branding change.

History of the Arena

The arena was built in 1991 under the title Delta Center. The Jazz moved to the arena after spending the early years of the franchise in the Salt Palace. Delta retained the naming rights until 2006 when EnergySolutions bid for the title.

The arena was called EnergySolutions Arena from 2006 to 2015 with the locally-based home security company Vivint bought the naming rights. Vivint owns the team’s naming rights through 2025.

The Jazz invested $125-million into the arena in 2015 to bring it up to date with competing buildings across the NBA. The upgrades included extended indoor entrances to keep ticket holders out of the frigid outdoor weather. Every seat in the arena was revamped to more comfortable padded chairs, while in-arena amenities were upgraded, including increased restaurant and team store options.

Last October, the Jazz were awarded the 2023 NBA All-Star Game After the Jazz revealed the upgrades to the Vivint Smart Home Arena.
