Golfer Tony Finau speaks with KSL's Rod Zundel after being selected to the 2018 US Ryder Cup team.
PARIS, France – Utah native Tony Finau was one of the few bright spots for the U.S. Ryder Cup team as they were defeated by the European squad over the weekend.
Big Wins By Finau
The last player selected for the team by captain Jim Furyk, Finau finshed tied for the U.S. team’s second-best score with a 2-1 record. He also had the largest margin of victory of any match with a 6 & 4 victory over England’s Tommy Fleetwood on Sunday. In that win, Finau won seven holes on the front nine, including five straight.

His other win came when he teamed up with Brooks Koepka for a 1 up victory on Friday. His loss came in a close defeat to Rory McIlroy and Sergio Garcia on Saturday.
“It has been an incredible week,” Finau said afterwards. “I haven’t felt nerves and this type of excitement in a golf tournament ever. It’s been a cool experience for me, and I’m proud to be on this team.”
Happy To Be On The Team
Though his team didn’t do well losing 17.5-10.5, it was a thrill to Finau to be on the same team as Tiger Woods, Phil Mickelson, Jordan Speith and others.
“We have 12 unbelievable golfers on this team and to have my name in the mix as a rookie this it was an incredible experience for me,” said Finau.
Finau will next hit the links at the Dunhill Links Championship at St. Andrews, Carnoustie and Kingsbarn golf courses in Scotland.
