Brett Favre Feels Packers Should Use Jordan Love In Role Similar To Taysom Hill

SALT LAKE CITY, Utah – How will the Green Bay Packers use former Utah State quarterback Jordan Love during his rookie season? If it was up to Pro Football Hall of Famer Brett Favre, he’d put Love in a role similar to another former local signal-caller.

The role of New Orleans Saints do-it-all quarterback and former BYU star Taysom Hill.

“I think there are ways to incorporate [Love], much like Taysom Hill with the Saints,” said Favre in an interview with TMZ Sports. “Use him as a halfback, halfback pass, but occasionally let him run it. Just to show you’ll do that. Something like that.”

It’s not known if the Packers have any interest in making Love a “gadget player” similar to what Hill has done the past few seasons in New Orleans. But it’s definitely an interesting idea to get Love onto the field during his rookie season.

In three seasons at Utah State, Love rushed for 403 yards and nine touchdowns.

Brett Favre’s advice for Jordan Love

Favre is familiar with being a starting quarterback and having his team draft a QB in the first round. When Favre was the quarterback with the Packers, Aaron Rodgers was selected in the first round of the 2005 Draft.

The Packers moved up to select Love with the 26th pick in the first round of this year’s NFL Draft.

“Soak it all in and get better,” said Favre on the advice he’d give to Love. “So when your time comes [you’re ready] … and that’s what happened with Aaron [Rodgers]. I know he wanted to play right away but when he got there, he got to sit. We got along great despite what most people think. We sat in meetings –just the two of us– and he asked questions and I gave him whatever answer I felt was the right answer.”

Taysom Hill used to be in Green Bay

It’s easy to say give Jordan Love a role similar to Taysom Hill’s. But the way an NFL franchise views a first-round quarterback compared to an undrafted signal-caller is a night and day difference.

After completing his career at BYU, Hill signed an undrafted free agent contract with the Packers and dazzled in the preseason. Throwing for 149 yards and rushing for 71 yards with a QB passer rating of 124.8 in his preseason appearances in Green Bay.

But that performance was not enough to make the 53-man roster. The Packers cut Hill opting to keep Brett Hundley and days later, Hill ended up in New Orleans after the Saints claimed him off waivers.
