Skyridge Takes Down Corner Canyon For First State Title

SALT LAKE CITY – For the first time in school history, the Skyridge Falcons are state champions in football after a 17-7 win over Corner Canyon in the 6A championship game.
McCae Hillstead completed 19 of his 28 pass attempts for 182 yards and two touchdowns for Skyridge. For Corner Canyon, Isaac Wilson completed 20 of his 33 pass attempts for 184 yards, one touchdown, and one interception.

First Half
On the first drive of the game, Skyridge worked their way down the field and ended it with a beautiful throw by McCae Hillstead to Kyle Valdez for a 27-yard touchdown to give the Falcons a 7-0 lead with 8:30 remaining in the first quarter.

Corner Canyon responded when Isaac Wilson connected with Tate Kjar for a 25-yard touchdown to tie the game at seven with 5:20 left in the opening quarter.

Skyridge was able to get a 23-yard field goal with 1:36 remaining in the first half. Corner Canyon had a chance for points late in the half but was stopped on fourth down in Skyridge territory. The Falcons had a 10-7 lead at halftime.
Second Half
The first possessions by both teams in the second half were stopped on fourth down. The third quarter was scoreless.
Early in the fourth quarter, McCae Hillstead found Jace Doman for a 10-yard touchdown. Skyridge extended their lead to 17-7 with 11:08 remaining in the fourth quarter.

Corner Canyon was able to get down the field on a big play by Drew Patterson. They faced fourth and two at the Skyridge four-yard line. The Chargers elected to go for it on fourth down and Isaac Wilson was stopped short of the marker.
With three minutes left in the game, Skyridge took over with a 10-point lead.
On the last play of the game, Skyridge intercepted the pass thrown by Wilson, which was the first turnover of the game.
