Salt Lake County Player of the Week – Tyler Messer, Herriman
Messer and the Herriman Mustangs took on Weber High School last week in the second round of the 6A Playoffs. After Weber took an early 3-0 lead, the Mustangs offense came alive as they reeled off 42 unanswered points as Messer threw, ran for and caught a touchdown in sequential order during the run as they carried a 42-16 lead into halftime.
The Mustangs emerged from the locker room and ensured that any hopes of a comeback by the Warriors would not be realized as they tacked on two third quarter touchdowns and another in the fourth as they rolled to a 62-32 victory. Messer finished the game completing 14-of-16 passes for 268 yards and two touchdowns while adding 74 rushing yards and a touchdown on the ground, along with a 66-yard touchdown reception. Herriman takes on crosstown rival Mountain Ridge tonight in the KSL Sports’ Game Night Live Game of the Week in the quarterfinals of the 6A Playoffs.
