SEATTLE – The Utah Hockey Club has now lost four straight following a 5-2 loss to the Kraken at Climate Pledge Arena on Monday.
Following a winless three-game losing streak, Utah looked to get back on the horse away from home ice. With a seven-game win streak on the road, that seemed like a very fair possibility.
Logan Cooley struck first early on and then the score was knotted at 2-2 going into the third. Three unanswered from Seattle in the final period sealed the deal.
Utah will stay on the road to take on the Edmonton Oilers on Tuesday, December 31.
Tonight, the two newest @NHL franchises face off for the first time.

#UtahHC buzzing early on every line.
Speed, urgency, active sticks and an aggressive forecheck.
Guenther spoke earlier today about getting on the Kraken right away. Looking good so far.

Gourde just took a shot at Kesselring with his stick.
Keller did not like it and got involved with Gourde near the benches. Lots of fire from the captain as of late when standing up for his teammates.
That’s what you want to see from your leader.

Kesselring slow to get up after taking a hard hit from Tanev from behind.
Appears to be shaking it off but something to keep an eye on.
Seattle is a SCRAPPY bunch. #UtahHC to the power play as Tanev will sit for 2 minutes for boarding.

RELATED: Logan Cooley Scores First In Battle Of Newest NHL Franchises
A key pursuit from Schmaltz kept this O-zone possession alive and Logan Cooley made sure to bury it on a one-timer from Keller.
This unit is so dangerous and is transforming into one of the most dangerous power play lines in the NHL. https://t.co/cTybjbMXD9

Barrett Hayton to the box for 2 minutes for hooking.

Utah is back to full strength but that was a DANGEROUS power play from the Kraken.
Several chances that could’ve ended up in the back of the net as Seattle had sustained O-zone pressure.
Lucky for Utah, the Kraken fanned on a few and couldn’t quite connect on others. https://t.co/rMahGejLLs

Lawson Crouse to the box for 2 minutes for roughing.

Retaliation penalty and the Kraken score on the power play.
The refs will always get the second offender.
Costly. https://t.co/XiweAVEItS

Kraken goal disallowed after a coach’s challenge from Utah.
Seattle was offside and Utah catches a break.
Score remains 1-0 Utah. https://t.co/3d5V8dZAnL

Gourde scores and this one will count.
Huge rebound ended up on Gourde’s stick on the backdoor and he quickly throws it into the open net before Vejmelka can get across.
1-1 late in the third period.

Kraken score again on a redirect.
It’s been one-way traffic for the last 5 minutes.
2-1 Seattle with 1:03 to go in the first period.

After a good start and an early 1-0 lead in Seattle, Utah struggled mightily after Crouse’s penalty as the Kraken scored twice in 51 seconds to take a 2-1 lead.
They’re also outshooting Utah 15-6.
Need to regain composure and spark some energy in the second period.

Seattle has done a good job at effectively irritating Utah tonight.
They’ve been scrappy, gotten involved in some scrums, drawn some penalties, and even delivered some questionable hits.
So far, it’s been working. Feels like Utah’s emotions are a little high.

ALEXANDER KERFOOT HAS TIED THE GAME AT 2-2!
The fourth line continues to produce when Utah needs them the most.#UtahHC
— Cole Bagley (@BagleyKSLsports) December 31, 2024
Utah’s fourth line has scored 10 goals in the last 17 games during 5 on 5 hockey.
That is simply phenomenal production.#UtahHC
— Cole Bagley (@BagleyKSLsports) December 31, 2024
Utah’s 4th line has simply been unreal as of late.
Each of them understands their role and has exceeded expectations. Can’t overstate their impact on this team. https://t.co/uBFVrd9c0T

Kerfoot on the 4th line: “Stenny is extremely responsible defensively, got a really good stick, smart, heavy on pucks. Carc’s has got a lot of speed & a dangerous shot. When he’s out there, guys have to respect him. So, it opens up some space & we got a fortunate bounce there.”

A bad shift change by #UtahHC led to a breakaway for the Kraken, but Vejmelka said no.

Kraken score again.
Way too many odd man rushes tonight. Multiple breakaways from bad shift changes and poor coverage.
The Kraken are scrappy and sneaky.
They now lead the game 4-2 with 8:17 to go.
— Cole Bagley (@BagleyKSLsports) December 31, 2024
Vejmelka to the bench.
Extra attacker on with just under 3 minutes to go.
Utah needs two goals to tie it.

Kraken score on the empty net and lead 5-2.
That should do it.
Losing streak extends to 4. Lots of ups and downs for Utah this season. https://t.co/2kkY3lpvmc
