SALT LAKE CITY- The Utah Hockey Club hosted the Edmonton Oilers for the first time ever in Salt Lake City to wrap up Thanksgiving week.

The fans who filled Delta Center for Hockey Fights Cancer night got their money’s worth as 60 minutes wasn’t enough to separate Utah and Edmonton, needing overtime to determine a winner.

The Utah Hockey Club opened strong, scoring two goals in the opening period off the sticks of Alexander Kerfoot and Logan Cooley to give Utah the multi-goal lead entering the second period.

However, in the second the wheels fell off for the home team as the Oilers scored three goals in the last ten minutes, two of them from their heavy scorers Leon Draisaitl and Connor McDavid and another from Vasily Podkolzin.

It didn’t take long for Utah to find the game-tying goal, thanks to Lawson Crouse who scored a beauty.

Utah and Edmonton spent the remainder of the third period slugging it out to find a winner, but the two teams needed overtime.

With 3:42 remaining in the extra period, Matias Maccelli got his pocket picked by Ryan Nugent-Hopkins who took it down the other way by himself, sending a wrister past Karel Vejmelka, giving Edmonton the win and the extra point.
